ISSUE 1 /2024
It is with great pleasure that Acta Palaeomedica – International Journal of Palaeomedicine is launching its third issue after some delays. This volume mainly hosts the proceedings of the FAPAB Research Center-hosted 2021 interdisciplinary congress Health, Medicine, and Socio- Cultural Aspects in the Late Middle Ages and through the Renaissance: New Research Perspectives. The meeting, back in 2021, proved a very successful one with several high-quality contributions covering multidisciplinary topics in bioarchaeology, palaeopathology, history of anatomy and the intersection of medicine and the arts, not forgetting the role played in many of the talks by the figure of the Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci. In addition, this congress also includes very interesting articles on the history of pandemics, anthropological research from mediaeval Eliossana (Spain) and a historico-medical study on the uterus in Roman times. I take the opportunity of this concise editorial note to remember Dario Palermo, former professor of archaeology at the University of Catania and member of our editorial board who sadly passed away while this issue was in preparation, and art historian Fred R. Kline, who left us a few days before the aforementioned FAPAB Congress took place. We honour both these distinguished gentlemen’s memory.

ISSUE 2 SEPTEMBER 2021
In this issue we celebrate traditional osteological methods in papers addressing deviant burials and post-mortem mutilation as well as evidence of autoptic practices, respectively from Tuscany and Spain, a comprehensive analysis of malaria in Ancient Egypt, and congenital spine anomalies in prehistoric Sicily. This set of papers is corroborated by additional contributions from Australia and Germany presenting bioarchaeological findings in South Australia and the importance of plaster casts in German collections.
